Managing all aspects of the user independent of the desktop – lowering desktop management costs, reducing complexity and mitigating risk

Standardization provides opportunity for huge reductions in desktop TCO, however standardized desktops are not suitable for use across the enterprise as they need configuring for each individual user. Policy is therefore required to apply business rules and actions to the desktop dependent on the user or the connecting device.

Policy is used to set up a desktop, configure settings such as mapped drives, printers and group policy items, and furthermore it is used to maintain and protect a desktop session. Policy also ensures a user session remains compliant by controlling application access, locking down or removing operating system and application functions, even self healing essential files, folders, processes, services and registry settings.

Dynamically configure a desktop based on user, device or location condition

Since corporate policy is not the same for every user, it must be tailored for each individual user or device. Based on a flexible set of options unlike traditional logon scripts which apply only at user logon, policy can be applied at various points throughout a computer or user session dependant on various trigger points or conditions being met. This enables granular control of the desktop from a simple, one off configuration being created as part of the implementation process.

Policy actions can be triggered to apply under different time points including start-up, shutdown, logon, logoff, process start, process stop, network connect, network disconnect. Additionally, conditions can be applied which enable actions to be executed based on who, where from or how a user is connecting to the endpoint or application. By easily manipulating these triggers, conditions and actions, you can quickly implement business policies which can be shared and utilized across operating system boundaries and different application delivery mechanisms. Eliminating complex and cumbersome scripting means desktops can now be set-up more quickly and maintained more easily at lower cost.
