Corporate IT departments face increasing pressure to deliver the right applications to the right people at the right time. New application delivery methods bring challenges in maintaining optimal service levels to end users. From inconsistent working environments to unpredictable application performance, users, IT and the business are impacted by these challenges.
These are core deliverables IT administrators must provide to their end users. AppSense user environment management for Terminal Servers simplifies the management of this increasingly complex IT infrastructure.
AppSense user environment management for terminal servers consists of three core elements.

Profile Management
AppSense profile management enables administrators to provide a consistent, yet contextual experience for end users by delivering the security and performance benefits offered by mandatory profiles along with the flexibility offered by roaming profiles.
A standard desktop environment can be delivered and maintained for all users ensuring enforced protection from unauthorized changes and an additional level of user personalization can be offered, allowing a user's own changes to roam with them across multiple computer sessions. This has the added benefit of minimizing network bandwidth consumption, by saving and loading only relevant areas of a user's profile rather than transferring the whole profile across the network.
The Benefits Of Profile Management
- Provides a flexible and robust solution to roaming profile issues
- Removes the potential for profile corruption
- Enables consistent quality of service to the user regardless of the environment delivery mechanism
- Reduces logon times dramatically
- Manages profile settings across distributed server silos
- Simple migration from existing profiles
The "Function Rich" Profile Management Solution
AppSense delivers a comprehensive profile management solution, Environment Manager, which can be used to resolve roaming profile issues that are often encountered within the enterprise.
Used in conjunction with a mandatory profile, AppSense Environment Manager may be optimally configured to save out different portions of the user profile at logoff, such as registry settings and files, and restore them when the user next logs on. This ensures minimized network bandwidth consumption, saving and loading relevant areas of a user profile, rather than transferring the whole profile across the network. Furthermore, user profile corruption becomes a thing of the past since there is no longer file copy contention during the logoff process.
Existing profile implementations can be seamlessly migrated to use the Environment Manager profile management solution, which also offers the added benefit of being able to centrally manage and maintain the lockdown of application and operating system content and self healing of critical files, processes, services and registry keys.
- Only specific settings are copied at log-on/log-off times, therefore keeping file sizes down to a minimum and maintaining faster log-on times
- Only the required settings for the particular silo are copied over ensuring no configuration issues
- AppSense Environment Manager does not use roaming profile functions. In the unlikely event of a failure it applies purely to a specific setting and not to the whole profile
This solution provides an ideal method of managing user profiles more effectively. By rarely requiring any intervention by the user or administrator, ensuring minimum logon times, minimizing profile sizes, aiding stability and reducing any loss of service for the user, AppSense Environment Manager can significantly improve quality of service to the end user.
System Protection
AppSense System Protection enables administrators to proactively control the applications that can be executed within a user environment, eliminating those that are disruptive such as viruses, games and animations.
Application execution can be managed contextually, depending on such parameters as user location and endpoint security posture.
The Benefits Of System Protection
- Protect the user environment from unknown and unauthorized user activity
- Preserve the user environment configuration data
- Dynamically react to unexpected changes in user environment regardless of environment delivery mechanism
- Ensure compliance
"Point of Access" System Protection
AppSense has developed an environment protection solution, which combines the AppSense Application Manager and AppSense Environment Manager components, with the aim to control the applications that are able to execute in a user's environment.
Unauthorized and unknown applications are managed at the point of user access with minimal administrative maintenance by Application Manager and any accidental or malicious changes that users make attempt to make to the environment are automatically self-healed by Environment Manager.
Whether malicious or innocent in nature, unexpected activities are managed, providing a safe and predictable user environment.
Quality Of Service
Quality Of Service enables administrators to optimize the response times of key applications for key users at key times, providing a consistent Quality of Service across the network.
Efficient and intelligent use of hardware resources ensures that investments are maximized and application hangs or slow response times are eliminated.
The Benefits Of Quality Of Service
- Provide responsive and predictable user environments
- Contextually prioritise resources based on business needs
- Dynamically manage resources in reaction to environment changes
AppSense "Optimized" Quality Of Service
AppSense Performance Manager provides a consistent Quality of Service to the end user by optimizing application response times. Users need not wait for business critical applications to execute and respond to their actions. Application and user environments can be dynamically optimized to ensure maximum hardware utilization and optimal and consistent quality of service.
AppSense works alongside Microsoft and Citrix to ensure cutting edge, cross platform, enterprise level Terminal Server solutions.
